Seek for Eternal Treasures
–When we read God’s word we see wonderful things: God’s plans and purposes, and understand that life is purposeful and not guided by fate or chance (Romans 8:28).
— Our reference point becomes the eternal God ( the one who caused everything to become without being caused by anything), who transcends time and space and sees the beginning and the end at the same time.
–After spending 70 years as captives in Babylon and Persia, they were so ATTENTIVE when Ezra the priest began to read aloud the Book of the Law.
–They stood for 6 HOURS: “He read it aloud from DAYBREAK till NOON as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people LISTENED ATTENTIVELY to the Book of the Law.” (Nehemiah 8:3 ).
–The same was the practice of the early church to stand for 2 hours while the scriptures were being read. A rare culture today where the main focus is on temporal treasure : 2 hours of seating and people are sleeping, on the phone or bored; and must be hyped to pay attention.
–Many have become spirituality malnourished and weak because of feeding on spiritual junk food, wild vines and catchy opinions that excite but don’t build. (2 Timothy 4:3-4, Hebrews 5:11-14, 2 Kings 4:38-40).
REFLECTION:
Heavenly wisdom is attained by reading God’s word.
”Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” (Psalms 119:18 )
“Search for wisdom as you would search for silver or hidden treasure.” (Proverbs 2:4 CEV)
