Don’t put your ROOTS too DEEP
•Don’t put your ROOTS too DEEP in a world that’s passing away – Rather have an eternal perspective in everything •
”My friends, what I mean is that the Lord will soon come, and it won’t matter if you are married or not. It will be all the same if you are crying or laughing, or if you are buying or are completely broke. It won’t make any difference how much good you are getting from this world or how much you like it. This world as we know it is now passing away.” (1 Corinthians 7:29-31 CEV)
“What I am saying is for your own good—it isn’t to limit your freedom. I want to help you to live right and to love the Lord above all else.” (1 Corinthians 7:35 CEV)
–In 1 Corinthians 7, Paul is answering many questions at once, that the Church had asked him about. Paul is saying:
–Being singe, married, slave, free, Jew or Gentile should not trouble you; now that you are in the LORD, be FULLY DEVOTED to him.
–Weeping, rejoicing, having or not having possessions must not get in your way of being FULLY DEVOTED to the LORD.
–Marriage is is important and a Gift from God, BUT above that, live with your eyes FOCUSED on ETERNITY.
**(Reflections on v32-35 indicates that those in marriage must be very careful not to put each others interests/devotion above the Lord’s).
–Singlehood (v7)equally is important and is a Gift from God – if in that state, be fully devoted to the Lord.
–We’ must live with a time is short attitude waiting for the Lord (Matthew 24:44).
