Feelings Anxious?
Consider these words:
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Nothing can be bring greater joy than knowing Jesus. For this reason, Paul has just told the Christians in Philippi that they should always rejoice.
But Paul realizes that there is one thing, above all else, which can rob people of their joy – anxiety. It can be so destructive. When we are anxious we feel as though we are carrying a great burden. We do not want to put it down or allow anyone to take it from us: we hold onto it tightly.
Paul’s instruction is very clear: in every situation – whatever the circumstances – we should ask God to help us with the burden we are carrying.
There is no promise that the cause of anxiety will be immediately resolved. However, we can expect God to protect our hearts and minds with His peace.
When anxiety comes, what do we do? Do you keep it to yourself, perhaps until it becomes just unbearable? Paul’s advice is much better option.
Prayer: Almighty God, I do get anxious over all sorts of issues. Even now, I am anxious about (name the anxiety). Please show me how to deal with this and please guard my heart and mind with Your peace.
AMEN.
