Distressed
Words of Jesus:
He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”, he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch” Mark 14:33-34.
We must never think that, because Jesus was God, he was immune from suffering and trouble when He lived here on earth. He was both God and Man and He experienced all emotions that we experience.
So it was right that He was deeply distressed shortly before He was arrested. He cried out to his Father, “Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done not mine v36. Jesus knew the horrendous suffering which the crucifixion would bring but He was willing to obey God’s wishes.
Jesus provides that supreme example for us to follow when we are distressed. Often, the only thing we can do is pray. It is always the best thing.
Are you in deep distress over something? If you have not yet prayed, do so now. Your prayer will be heard by Jesus Himself, now at God’s right hand. He knows exactly how you are feeling.
Prayer: Dear father God, it is comforting to know that you understand exactly how distressed I am. Everything is possible for you. Please (make your personal request). Please help me to accept whatever is Your will and give me the strength I need.
AMEN!
