Scared
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.
My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge.
Psalms 62:6-8 (NLT)
David’s early life as a shepherd may have been fairly peaceful. He did not seem to be unduly troubled by the danger of prowling lions and wolves. Nor was he scared when he faced Goliath, the great Philistine giant whom he then defeated.
Later, however, David did receive some death threats which caused him to be scared. First, King Saul tried to kill him when he became jealous of David’s popularity with the people. After that, David was forced to escape from his own son, Absalom.
When we read some of David’s Psalms, we see that he often cried out to God to ask for protection from his enemies. And he was able to say that God was his rock, his fortress and his refuge. He knew God would never fail him.
Whatever your circumstances, that can also be true for you. God can be your rock and your refuge.
Prayer: Dear father God, as you know everything, you know how scared I am about the situation I am now facing. I am willing to admit it. Please protect me. I want you to be my refuge just as you were King David’s refuge. AMEN
